Description/Job Summary

Basic Purpose of the Position:
This position is responsible for leading the team that prepares cost estimates for product manufacturing that will aid in bidding on or determining price of product or service.
Main Responsibilities:
  1. Provide daily leadership to the estimating team in terms of setting priorities, resolving issues, solving problems, and pushing efficiency.
  2. Identifies labor, material, and time requirements by studying proposals, customer CAD data, blueprints, specifications, and related documents.
  3. Interface with Customer Service, Engineering, and Manufacturing departments during technical discussions.
  4. Presents prepared estimates by assembling and displaying numerical and descriptive information.
  5. Maintains multiple data bases by entering and backing up data.
  6. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  7. Analyze cost impact of product revisions.
  8. Develop piece/project cost for bus bars and the like, including components, secondary operations and finishes, laminated and non-laminated assemblies, and value added processes.
  9. Develop tooling concepts and related costs required to support the proposed manufacturing process.
  10. Interface with external customers, vendors, material suppliers, etc.
  11. Contribute as a team member with internal departments including tooling, purchasing, sales and accounting.
  12. Estimate the costs of production and define the selling price according to Mersen profitability objectives.
  13. Complete internal cost breakdowns and also input data into customer specific forms as required.
  14. Resolves discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information.
  15. Drive improvement to the estimating process to reduce cycle time, eliminate work content, and improve cost accuracy with the ultimate goal of winning more business.
Requested Knowledge, Competencies and Abilities:
  1. Engineering, manufacturing and/or cost estimating experience in a manufacturing environment, or related education, and or technical training.
  2. Blueprint interpretation, spreadsheet, word processing knowledge is required.
  3. Analyzing information, estimating, planning, reporting research results, data base experience, and attention to detail is a must.
  4. Demonstrated track record of improving efficiency and quote lead time.
  5. Working knowledge of Autodesk and MS Office software.
